Wasteyards in Hungary
Quiz:
HuMuSz carried out an extensive survey on waste repurchase in Hungary. Without giving advance notice, we visited the relevant companies and enterprises and after three months our efforts paid off : HuMuSz activists succeeded in collecting and registering data from companies and enterprises which deal with waste and have their own premises.
HuMuSz started the survey by visiting the addresses we already had, then tried to get hold of a company database which, much to our surprise, is not available in Hungary! The MoE does not keep a record of enterprises and companies which purchase and reuse waste So HuMuSz figured out all sorts of ways to collect the data we wanted. We searched high and low for all possible sources of addresses, then we paid a visit to the wasteyards to collect the relevant information (address, opening hours, types of waste etc.). This proved to be surprisingly difficult - the intrepid HuMuSz activists often faced not only the opposition of the wasteyard manager but also had to take on the manager's dogs, just to get this "precious" information on the waste market.
We undertook this task as not one single state body could tell us who dealt with waste repurchasing
Our database is now published and available on the web: www.humusz.hu
- Why does the Ministry not have a record on wasteyards?
- Why are the companies dealing with waste so firmly against being listed in a database?
- Why do the companies refuse to publish the waste repurchase prices ?
- How is it possible that the repurchase price of paper is still the same as 20 years ago - when there has been 10-25% inflation per year?
